Role Purpose
To provide a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all supporters and visitors attending fixtures and events primarily at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Stewards play a key role in crowd safety, customer service, and matchday operations, working in line with Coventry City FC’s Safety Policy and the Green Guide.
This role is on a casual hours basis supporting our matchday/events which will include evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
Responsibilities:
Safety & Crowd Management
Monitor crowd behaviour and identify potential risks, incidents, or hazards.
Assist with controlled movement of spectators, including directing fans to seats, managing entry points, and supporting safe stadium ingress and egress.
Ensure all gangways, exits, and emergency routes remain clear.
Respond calmly and efficiently to emergencies, evacuations, or incidents as instructed by supervisors.
Carry out pre- and post-event safety checks to ensure standards are met.
Customer Service
Provide excellent customer care to all supporters, including answering questions, giving directions, and offering general assistance.
Deal with queries, complaints, and issues in a polite, professional manner.
Help create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere consistent with Coventry City FC values.
Matchday Operations
Operate turnstiles where required, monitoring ticket validity and assisting supporters with access.
Observe and report any anti-social behaviour, prohibited items, or breaches of ground regulations.
Support with lost property, lost persons, and vulnerable spectators.
Maintain strong communication with supervisors and control room staff via radio.
Compliance & Standards
Comply with the club’s health and safety policies, ground regulations, and relevant legislation.
Participate in mandatory training, including spectator safety qualifications where required.
Uphold the club’s safeguarding, equality, and inclusion standards at all times.
Essential
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Calm, confident, and able to work under pressure.
Reliable, punctual, and professional in appearance and approach.
Ability to work as part of a team in a busy, fast-moving environment.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable
Previous stewarding, customer service, or security experience.
Level 2 NVQ in Spectator Safety (or willingness to work towards this).
Knowledge of football matchday operations.
